Dr. Jacques Livingston
Professional Experience
While completing my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of South Africa, I volunteered as a lay counsellor at the Amanzimtoti Trauma Room in 1999/2000 and at the Durban Lesbian and Gay Community and Health Centre in 2001. From 2002 to 2004 I remained at the Centre in a full-time position as Personal Counselling and Support Groups Project Coordinator.
I left the Centre in 2004 to pursue a Masters Degree in Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The following year I completed a psychology internship at the Student Counselling Centre at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine. I remained at the Student Counselling Centre in 2006 as Student Counsellor. It is during this time that I set up a psychology practice and started seeing private clients after-hours.
In 2007 I moved from Durban to accept a position as Health and Well-being Manager at OUT Well-being in Pretoria. While at OUT, I managed large scale HIV prevention programmes targeting sexual minorities and coordinated health and well-being services that included clinic and counselling services.
In 2012 I left OUT to take up a position as Key Populations Program Manager at ICAP. In this position I was responsible for Health Programmes being implemented in Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and Northern Cape. It is during this time that I completed a Doctorate in Philosophy (in Psychology).
In 2015, I joined the Unites States Agency for International Development as Youth Advisor, where I took on various roles until 2023. I continue to see private clients after hours during this time.
In 2023, I relocated to the UK to join the NHS where I am the lead psychologist for a service across three hospitals in North-West London.
